When Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer, she turned to nutritious foods and herbs to help her beat the disease. She was able in fact to help shrink her tumor, to the doctor’s surprise, with good nutrition! Amazing what a few changes in lifestyle can do.

One Wig Stand reached out to Lisa from Pink Kitchen for her favorite Middle Eastern recipe to post on One Wig Stand for our Arab readers. She excitedly sent us her favorite hummus recipe. This “sultry” Red Bean Hummus, made with smoked Spanish paprika, fresh oregano, and the heat of red pepper, will make you feel like you’re partying in the Mediterranean (in her own words).
Since us Lebanese certainly know how to have a good time, what’s one more party – of the taste buds?
SMOKEY RED BEAN HUMMUS
1 can red kidney beans, or two cups dried (cooked)
1 tsp. smoked Spanish paprika powder (you must get the smoked kind, or it won’t taste as sultry as it should)
1 large sprig of fresh oregano, or 1 tsp. dried oregano (if you can, grab some fresh oregano. It has such an exotic taste)
2 cloves garlic, or 1 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. ground red pepper (adjust to taste)
1 tbsp. tahini paste (optional)
1/4 c. extra virgin olive oil (slightly less if not using tahini)
sea salt to taste
How to Prepare:
1- Put all ingredients in blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
2- Place this smoky hummus in a bowl, and drizzle the top with additional olive oil and a sprig of oregano.
3- Serve with whole wheat pita chips.
